Dear Margy –
I do not wish to add to your worries – since as both Chair and Acting Executive Director of the foundation for nearly a year, you have had enough to worry about.
However, I have no choice. Several times now, because of the many apparent cases of financial irregularity that have come to light, I (and other members of the Audit Committee) have made repeated requests to our auditors for specific information pertaining to foundation income, expenses, and payables. But, surprisingly, the auditors were unwilling (or, as they claimed, unable) to release this information (even though it is supposed to be public under California law). Instead, they told me that the information was in your possession and CFO Raul Salvador’s. If I wanted it, they said, I would have to ask you. It was announced last night that personnel reduction notices will be issued at KPFA and $250,000 in layoffs will be implemented in the next 30 days.

As an explanatory vote, Hank Lamb’s attempt received 5 votes in support besides his own. Four of them were from the minority faction (Uzzell, Coleman, Birden, Gray). One was from the board majority (Reyes). The other two minority faction members present abstained (Reiter and Kaufman). The Pacifica Board of Directors was informed today by IED, Margy Wilkinson of a December 17, 2014 letter (sent almost a week earlier) from California Deputy Attorney General, Julianne Mossler, “for Kamala D. Harris, Attorney General.” This was the first that the Board (as a whole) was informed of this letter the California Attorney General and the action it is taking toward the Pacifica Foundation Radio.

An Open Letter To The Pacifica Community
It is way past time to put our radio network under the leadership of people who know how to supervise the operation of radio stations. The post-coup situation cannot continue. Not for another day and not for another week.
The executive director position needs to be immediately filled with an interim director with sufficient experience not to endanger the licenses. The Pacifica National Board (PNB) has had applications for months from at least two individuals with decades of experience managing radio stations.
