Pacifica Radio Coverage of Comey Testimony – June 8
[Berkeley] – On Thursday June 8 from 10:00am to 1:00pm EDT, Pacifica Radio will provide three hours of gavel-to-gavel analysis of former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony before the United States Senate Intelligence Committee.
The coverage will be produced by Pacifica’s Washington DC station, WPFW-FM, with contributors from WBAI-FM New York, KPFA-FM Northern California and KPFK-FM Southern California.
Immediately following the committee hearing, there will be commentary and analysis by experts in the area – many unlikely to be featured in mainstream media coverage of the hearing.
Listeners may tune in to their local Pacifica station on Thursday June 8, or go to www.pacifica.org or www.pacificanetwork.org to stream the broadcast.
Pacifica Interim Executive Director Bill Crosier said “Comey’s firing has set off a power struggle following sequential FBI investigations into former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton’s private email server and President Donald Trump’s contacts with the Russian government. Pacifica Radio has a long history of documenting FBI harassment of movements for justice, peace and freedom for the last 68 years and brings a unique and crucial angle to the DC proceedings. Listen to the hearings from the people’s perspective on Thursday on your radio stations, the Pacifica Network”.

Started in 1946 by conscientious objector Lew Hill, Pacifica’s storied history includes impounded program tapes for a 1954 on-air discussion of marijuana, broadcasting the Seymour Hersh revelations of the My Lai massacre, bombings by the Ku Klux Klan, going to jail rather than turning over the Patty Hearst tapes to the FBI, and Supreme Court cases. Those cases include the 1984 decision that noncommercial broadcasters have the constitutional right to editorialize, and the Seven Dirty Words ruling following George Carlin’s incendiary performances on WBAI. The Pacifica Foundation operates noncommercial radio stations in five major metropolitan areas, and syndicates content to over 220 affiliates. It invented listener-sponsored radio.
