Subject:Re: budget
Date:Thu, 1 Sep 2005 20:58:28 -0700

I’m up for coffee Saturday—Lisa and I can still meet Tuesday afternoon. Also, we need a general strategy session. How about Tuesday night?

Issues include:
How should we be handling the expiration of the union contract—is a strike in order, or is it a really terrible idea?
What’s the best way to deal with these layoffs?
Coming up with, and presenting, an alternative budget.

“Strategic retreat on the LSB”—”how do we make our enemies own the problems that are to come?” Alternatively, should we be recalling LSB members/dismantling the LSB?

Getting the Roy issue to the national board.
“Propping up staff morale.”
“Strategic retreat on the LSB”—”how do we make our enemies own the problems that are to come?” Alternatively, should we be recalling LSB members/dismantling the LSB?
Dealing with the grievances underway.
Building community support—formation of a labor-community coalition.

Dan Siegel’s Not-So-Great Decade at Pacifica

compiled by Daniel Borgström

For several years Attorney Dan Siegel has been championing the rights of victims of police violence in Oakland, both before and during the Occupy movement. Nobody can deny that Siegel has done good work.  Nevertheless, his record at KPFA and other Pacifica stations including  WBAI has been consistently bad and seems difficult to write off as  “bad judgment.” Looking back at things Siegel did while General  Counsel and interim Executive Director for the Pacifica Foundation, I strongly suspect that Siegel deliberately intended to harm the foundation. By Peter Phillips and Mickey Huff,

The Pacifica Foundation is a 65-year old national progressive treasure in need of continuing attention and support. The Crisis in Pacifica and at KPFA: What Is Going On?

A Forum and Speak Out held on April 27, 2014 in Berkeley, California.

Pacifica radio is the most important alternative radio network in the United States and provides the most labor programming of any broadcast system in the country. In most cases it is the only alternative broadcast voice nationally on the air.

This presentations and discussion looked at the ongoing occupation that has been been taking place Pacifica Foundation offices for weeks after the firing of Executive Director Summer Reese.  Speakers also addressed the financial crisis, transparency and accountability – discussing how it is possible to solve the crisis and improve KPFA and the Pacifica Network.

The forum was held at the Berkeley Federation of Unitarian Universalists at 1924 Cedar Street in North Berkeley.

It was sponsored by Labor Video Project, BFUU Social Justice Committee,Media Freedom Foundation and Project Censored.

Major Issues and Concerns Currently Facing Pacifica

Report of the Executive Director to the Pacifica National Board
by  Summer Reese
April 27, 2014

The following is my report on the status of major issues and concerns currently facing Pacifica Foundation Radio during the crisis that has been created by the actions of the board majority. The reckless and illegal actions of the majority have caused considerable concern to our many creditors, who are now uncertain about the organization’s stability and ability to meet its financial obligations over time. This has resulted in two collections actions being filed against the Foundation this month by creditors that were previously working with staff on payment of these liabilities.  Continue reading Major Issues and Concerns Currently Facing Pacifica

Berkeley-The board majority’s request for a restraining order to empty the national office of community members who have been occupying Pacifica’s headquarters since March 17th, when Executive Director Summer Reese cut off a flimsy padlock and returned to work, was not granted today.

Judge Petrou continued the request, deciding to address it after a preliminary injunction hearing in PDGG vs Pacifica scheduled for May 6th.  Continue reading TRO Not Granted – Continued to May 6th
