Hello everyone, I’m writing this email feeling quite dejected. My hopes were up I will admit yes. I think I’m mistaken about what kpfa is and my thoughts of what it can be. My hopes were to help make the Block the Boat demonstration as big as kpfa could, and be there to broadcast. But my hopes are dashed. Instead of a two hour in depth broadcast with interviews with activists port workers Palestinian youth organizers etcetera etcetera.. Quincy has recommended that we call in a couple times an hour with two or three minute updates…
While I feel that’s all great and fine and better than nothing. I personally feel it is far below what kpfa is capable of. One of my questions to Quincy was how do I tell the story of a Palestinian man whose family has been blown out of his house and half his family killed in a two minute call in update?? How do we put a face to war where a whole population is being systematically exterminated in a two minute call in update?? Quincy has also told me I can go ahead and write a proposal but it probably won’t change his mind . But I still would like anyone who feels like we could put a great two hours of radio together that we could give the listeners what they want what they really want by doing a broadcast live from the port to send him an email at x@kpfa.org … I also questioned Quincy on the fund drive… they claim that we were great the phone service was awesome and that’s how we ended early. I expressed my views that I felt we pushed Gaza we pushed the massacre we pushed the tragedy that is Gaza and then we sold DVD’s to our listeners about the bombardment … about the history of Palestine about the systematic slaughter of people, and then we took their money. Now when we could do something to serve the community to really get something that could change things the offer is to break it into programming a couple time in an hour for two hours with two minute call ins for a whopping 16 mins of programming.
If anyone can help convince him that we can do a great 2 hours that we can do compelling radio live from the port that this might be what our listeners want …feel free to chime in and send an email I would appreciate it… Right now I just feel really dejected bummed out and I feel like we are letting the listeners down when it really matters when we could do something great we’re doing something half ass…
Kpfa is breaking my heart today.. I feel like i wanna give up on helping with so much heart cause it just gets broke everytime..
